πŸ”Ž First Impressions

πŸ“‡ VISUAL: Standing at the height of 5’11” - with a bit of a build to her but no one's going to say she strikes an intimidating presence at first glance - Holle has a striking and pretty appearance to her that’s amplified by the sense of boundless and sunny energy to her. She's inherited the β€˜gemlike eyes’ that's well-known for the family, getting an intense shade of blue, and has long bubblegum pink hair. Though she tries to be careful, one can find an occasional smudge of ink on her fingers or cheek.

πŸ“‡ FASHION: As a lady in the vague 18th/19t century(ish)... Holle does present herself respectable enough if only for the sake of her adopted family, the Remi. She wears the expected dresses and blouses/skirts of her times, form-fitting and flattering to her figure, but tries to wear designs that are plain as possible to not stick out like a sore thumb when doing work. She keeps her long hair either loose or half-pulled back, with her wearing her hair in braids or buns a rare sight since it takes too much work in her opinion. She's usually found wearing a wedding ring and a necklace from her older brother before the fire. ( reference. )

πŸ“‡ DEMEANOUR: One would expect her upbringing would result in a sophisticated woman but, alas, it has not. Holle is friendly and casual as she can get away with, someone who is clear as day when it comes to her emotions and is not afraid about speaking her mind. Though her less-than-polite manners can be disconcerting for those who expect a primp and proper lady of beauty, Holle’s warmth and good cheer more than makes up for that.

πŸ“‡ AURAL: Surprisingly soft and demure when she speaks - which only surprises people all the more when they get to know her better - but when pushed for information or certainty of a claim of hers, Holle will develop steel in her voice while asserting herself. Her voiceclaim is Lauren Landa for the role Tsukasa Yuzaki in Tonikaku Kawaii. ( reference. )

πŸ“‡ OLFACTORY: Tries to keep herself smelling clean and plain as to not leave any identifying scents of smells when breaking in or snooping around somewhere. She has, over time, developed a sort of signature smell to her if she's not careful: Typewriter ink and paper, a dash of the very dark coffee that she uses to sustain herself while doing an all-nighter for a report of hers. If she's forced to wear perfume for an occasion or job, she tries to use subtle fragrances like wood and sea salt, something that reminds her of the outdoor.

πŸ“‡ MENTAL INFORMATION: Quick and fast-paced, the very definition of a one track mind. Her thoughts are a cacophony of details and information, ranging from sights and sounds to even smells. Once she's calmed herself down and focused on a particular thing - more so when she's trying to recall a specific piece in a memory of hers - it'll become more stable and coherent.

πŸ“‡ MAGICAL INFORMATION: No magic to detect from her.

πŸ”Ž OOC

* BACKTAGGING: Pretty please with sugar on top! Backtagging is pretty much loved by me but if you would like us to continue on with a new thread, let me know because I understand not wanting to get bogged down by old threads.

πŸ“‡ FOURTHWALLING: No thank you!

πŸ“‡ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Holle is fine with hugs, whether it's the giver or receiver, and may give the occasional peck on the check if she feels friendly or close enough to someone. Anything else is off the table unless she's in a romantic relationship with somebody, whether it's casual or serious.

πŸ“‡ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.

πŸ“‡ RELATIONSHIPS: Open to romantic relationships with people of either gender. Though she's in a marriage with someone, it's more out of convenience and both she and her husband (Robert Jordan) are in mutual agreement they can have romantic partners outside of their marriage since neither likes the other in any romantic fashion. Open to both casual and serious relationships!

OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Standing at the height of 5’11”, Holle has a striking and pretty appearance that’s amplified by the sense of boundless and sunny energy to her. Though her less-than-polite manners can be disconcerting for those who expect a primp and proper lady of beauty, Holle’s warmth and good cheer more than makes up for that.

Hailing from the illusturious Porter-Held family, Holle inherited the famous β€˜gemlike eyes’ of the family, getting an intense shade of blue, that can amplify her emotions be it happiness or sadness or anger. She has fine features, delicate but carrying a sense of maturity to them that can only be seen when she’s on the lead of a good story. Though she tries to be careful, one can find an occasional smudge of ink on her fingers or cheek.

BULLETPOINTS
FACECLAIM.
➑ Rosaline Verite from I Became the Tyrant’s Secretary.

QUICK FACTS.
➑ 5 feet, 11 inches. Slim figure with some build to it, mostly her legs and arms. Long bubblegum pink hair that’s often either let loose or half-pulled back when she (rarely) has it up. Stunning blue eyes that matchers her bright smile.

➑ Wears fashionable enough clothing for a lady of her station but keeps it simple with dresses and blouse/skirt combinations to make it easier for her to move. Usually found wearing a wedding ring and a necklace from her older brother before the fire.

Abilities
ON THE CASE An intrepid journalist, Holle is an observant and smart woman who has a quick wit to her that’s helped her out of trouble, time and again. A healthy balance of book smarts and street smarts β€” more on the former than the latter, with Robert Jordan picking up on the slack of the latter β€” Holle is able to pick up on clues and observations of others around her that most fail to notice like their habits or mannerisms or tics, details of their clothing or grooming that she can use for cross-reference in the future.

One of her biggest assets is her β€˜complete photographic memory’ as she calls it: The ability to recall details perfectly from her memory if she brings it to the forefront of her mind. Pretty handy when solving a case or hunting down a story but she tries to not abuse it. It causes her a headache when she uses it too much with how much she remembers. As a result she only tries to recall one memory per day and pinpoint a specific detail of it whether it’s a voice or a name of a store or a face of a person who she came cross.

FISTICUFFS It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a young woman in possession of good breeding must be trained in the ability to punch a bastard out. At leastβ€” That’s Holle’s opinion. With her line of work and her way of doing her work having her going toe-to-toe with a lot of goons and henchmen and scoundrels, she quickly decided she would not become a helpless damsel. She picked up a few lessons on boxing, now possessing a punch that’s worth a damn if she had to distract someone or need a quick distraction.

Though Holle isn’t strong or powerful β€” that role falls to Robert Jordan, her β€˜husband’ and her bodyguard β€” Holle more than makes up for it with the fact she’s a fast and quick. She rather get in a quick and accurate swing than waste her time trying to make a hit last. She just needs to get out of their grasp and keep herself out of their range, she’s better at keeping away. When fight-or-flight comes in, Holle’s preferred method is to give a surprise fight begore going into flight. It hasn’t stirred her wrong yet so far!

SHOOT β€˜EM UP! Not satisfied with being a menace with just her fists and needing an extra layer of protection, Holle is also a crackshot and thinks of herself as being a sharpshoote. Years of growing up with her adopted family allowed her access to private lessons on sharpshooting and hunting parties, giving Holle the chance to hone her sharp eye and to better steady her eyes. Combined with quick reflexes and a fed-upness of people trying to kidnap her, Holle has become a good shot when given a gun.

Holle keeps a Belgian Pinfire Pepperbox (with the appropriate permits, of course!) on her person at all times, a gift from her adoptive parents when they realised they couldn’t stem her desires to be a journalist and wanted her to have some form of protection at least. Since she has only has six rounds for the barrel and reloading during a fight can get very tedious, Holle has learned to make her shots count. She’s able to hit moving targets with little-to-no-problems and is quite comfortable with running and gunning should the need arise.

Personality
DESPITE IT ALL Though Holle has been through a lot over the years, she’s never allowed it to bring her down for long.

She’s gotten knocked back down, time and again, she’s always gotten back up on her feet with a fire in her eyes and a steely quality to her smile. She’s never out of the count for long and that’s one of the most important qualities one should know about Holle: Not only is she a survivor but a fighter. She rather go down swinging than falling meekly in line, nursing an independence so streak and so fierce that it’s both her greatest strength and greatest weakness.

Whether it’s overcoming the Great Fire that took her family away or hunting down a lead, Holle is not the type to back down from anything. Even when she’s been threatened or harassed or kidnapped, Holle has bulldozed through those β€˜obstacles’, as she calls them, to keep on moving. Sometimes she ends up being worse for wear at the end of the day but that’s what she keeps in mind β€” Only for the day. The next day she’ll do better and succeed. β€˜Try, try, try and, by gods, try again’ is her motto.

BRIGHT AND CLEVER It helps that she has the smarts to back her up when she’s on the warpath. Though more booksmart than streetsmarts thanks to her privileged upbringing β€” she leaves the latter to her husband-of-convenience/best friend, Robert Jordan, who is more than eager to keep Holle from getting into anymore trouble β€” Holle utilises it to be the best of her ability.

Holle’s intelligence is evident with how well-rounded she is when it comes to her skillset: She’s versed in several languages, ranging from French to Spanish. She’s a whiz in math and science, particularly chemistry and measurements because it’s proven useful in a number of situations she’s been in. She’s an excellent player of the piano and violin (even if she found studying them tedious while growing up, preferring to be out and about) and has an amazing memory that she uses to her full advantage when it comes to her line of work.

Holle is also very observant. Don’t let the bubbly and sunny personality of hers pull the wool over your eyes: She has a sharp eye for details and is quick to pick up on things from others whether it’s their mannerism, their dress, or even their way of speaking. Realising early on in her youth that there’s more to this world (and what happened to her family) than meets the eye, Holle is eager to face it head on and knows she needs to confront it with not only gusto but with evidence by her side.

FOOLS RUSH IN This can (and has) cause her to be terribly, terribly cocky however. Confidence often tipping towards arrogance if someone doesn’t hold her back or put her in her place, Holle has a way of rubbing people off whether she means it or not. Her cheerful flippancy to some things, like manners and etiquette, can turn some people off of her and her stubbornness if she seizes on something can quickly vex people with how she’ll push, push, push until she’s satisfied with the results.

Never mind if someone else has different thoughts on the situation. Holle has an unfortunate habit of only thinking for herself at times despite her good intentions of wishing to help others out in her own way. Her desire to give a hand is genuine but she can forget to consider others’ feelings, at the same time.

Holle is aware of this and this issue of hers is a…. work-in-progress, as she describes it and Robert Jordan generously allows her to call it. Though Holle has tried to shrug off the high society roots of hers, it manifests best in this way (besides her almost worrying disregard for expenses or fees, due to her fortunes and the careful management of it from parties who do care for her) and is something that won’t be easy to shake off any time soon.

At least she’s aware of it and is something she strives to do better about.

AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH She wants to do better, always, because she’s determined to see her vision of a true and honest world through. It’s been joked that she’s more detective than reporter at times and that’s the truth for her. Holle, once seizing something, refuses to let it go and needs to see it to the end. She needs the ending, the information laid before her so she can get a sense of peace. Being plagued with the mystery and the utter senseless of her family’s deaths in the Great Fire, Holle wants nothing more but the truth to come out and to understand what happened that fateful day.

Though she can’t get that β€” not yet, she tells herself, since vowing to get to the bottom of it β€” she can get the truth for other things whether it’s for her job or for someone who's in need of her help.

This has gotten her into trouble in the past. From getting kidnapped by goons ordered to kill her to almost losing her friendship with Robert Jordan when she refused to stop pursuing the mystery behind the Great Fire, Holle’s passion gets the better of her and sweeps her off.

OVERALL SUMMARY Holle is a lot of things: A lady who no time to be a lady. A reporter who pours all her time into the pursuit of truth and integrity. A woman who is facing this brave new world with a dare in her eyes and a smile on her face. She’s all these things and more, someone who is adventurous and stubborn and loyal and good β€” Wanting nothing more but to bring the truth to light.

Because what drives Holle is the fact the truth is out there and it can be found. No matter how long it takes, no matter how deep it gets buried, it can be brought out to the world if you’re willing to put the effort into it. Which is what Holle will do because that’s what she wants to do.

History
πŸ”Ž EARLY LIFE. Hailing from the esteemed family Porter-Huld, a family who gained their fortunes from industrial and banking, Holle grew up a very privileged and happy childhood. With doting parents found in AmΓ©lie and Milou Porter-Huld and a protective older brother in Mattis Porter-Huld, Holle wanted for nothing with how she was spoiled relentlessly by her family. If she asked for something, they’ll give it to her. If she wanted something, they’ll retrieve it for her. She never had to worry.

Ignorance is bliss, they say, and it certainly applied to Holle back then. Though she lived an idyllic and happy childhood, she missed a lot of tension and distrust in the air that hung between her parents and her beloved brother. She just knew there were talks and she found herself being separated from him whenever possible but thought nothing more of it.

But that would prove to be a mistake (or advantage?) because it would soon come to a boil . (Details for what exactly happened between the parents and brother, with appropriate trigger warnings at the start, can be found in the comment section of this page.

Please note that the information is not necessary to learn. It’s only background and later story purposes that Holle will not face for most of the canon points I have in mind for her when roleplaying. Please proceed with caution if you decide to venture onwards still.)

πŸ”Ž THE GREAT FIRE. Then the Great Fire happened. No one knows for certain how it started or who was behind it but the known facts are the following: It happened the night before Holle’s birthday, May 22, at the Porter-Huld residence. Holle was woken up by her frantic and injured brother, teary-eyed as he explained their parents were dead and they had to escape now. They siblings tried to get out of the house but were unable to escape.

Realising that they had no time to look for another escape, Mattias, looking guilty and horrified by what’s happening, took his little sister to the kitchen and hid her in the cellar that was being renovated at the time. It would only be big enough to fit one person due to the materials and construction going on and Mattias knew who should be in it. He forced her inside, against her protests, told her to stay in there and to wait it out.

He then kissed her head and told her to stay safe, to never look for him after this because it would be better that way. Mattis closed the cellar door on his screaming sister after that, ensuring her safety but seemingly signing his own death warrant as the fires overtook the house.

Holle would end up being the lone survivor of what is known as the Great Fire of Navigator City, as it ravaged not only the Porter-Huld residence but other residences of the exclusive Copper Fort Village, the raging flames wiping several families of titans of industry and wealth.

πŸ”Ž ADOPTION AND PASSION. Shellshocked by the turn of events that so quickly befell her, Holle was mute for a few years out of trauma and a sense of guilt, left wondering if her constant fooling around and need for attention caused a maid to not watch a candle or a butler to take an improper smoke break when no one was looking.

It was a stroke of good luck that the Remi family took her in as their ward despite legal battles for the custody of Holle when she was confirmed to be alive. With her being the sole heiress of the Porter-Huld wealth there were many who wanted to use her but the Remi family, good friends of the Porter-Huld, succeeded and took her in. Though they weren’t as prosperous or influential as the Porter-Huld, they took care of Holle and had her best interests at heart.

Slowly but surely she regained her passion for life again and also developed an unquenchable need for the truth. The circumstances of the Great Fire haunts her to this day, especially the mysterious fates of her parents (burned beyond recognition) and her brother (his body never found, presumed to be lost in the flames) never sitting well with her. Though she had to endure boring lessons of etiquette and music as befitting her status, the Remi family encouraged her love for writing. They hoped indulging her in this would β€˜settle’ her and have her focus her attentions on other things, like courting and charity work. Something more proper for Holle.

It did not. If anything it ignited her love for writing and made her realise it was the news that would help her get what she wanted and needed. She later ended up getting a degree in journalism, after a long-fought campaign to get a degree in the first place, and would later join the Navigator’s Eye β€” the newspaper of Navigator City β€” and made an impressive splash. It’s not every day a rookie reporter (connections or no connections) would ruthlessly uncovered embezzlement and racketeering that was orchestrated the then well-beloved mayor.

Using her wealth, her wits, and her work, Holle soon travelled around the world in search for stories.

πŸ”Ž MEETING ROBERT JORDAN. It was during her travels β€” Belgium, when asked to report on an art show to keep her out of trouble at the begging of her poor foster mother β€” that she came across Robert Jordan.

Accused of murdering a curatorial research associate for the art gallery, it looked like a young lawyer by the name of Robert would be easily framed for the death and be thrown into prison if not for Holle’s intervention. She easily proved his innocence after pointing out inconsistencies that was not noticed β€” Robert was shown to be allergic to the associate’s preferred cologne earlier that week but showed no signs of allergies then β€” and more or less forced herself into the investigation. With a confused and impressed Robert in tow, now proven innocent.

The pair later stumbled across a circle of criminals who committed art fraud and trafficking of these forged goods, with their motive of killing associate being he had noticed an inconsistency with their provenance and confronted their art dealer/mastermind of the fraud about it. Robert would end up taking a bullet for Holle when the mastermind tried to shoot Holle, earning himself a nasty shoulder scar in the process but also earning Holle’s respect and loyalty by the end of it.

The two became close friends soon after this adventure, with Robert quickly becoming her constant companion in the form of her bodyguard and legal consultant for her work. They would later ended up entering a marriage of convenience together after they talked it out with each other, knowing the benefits would outweigh the fact they saw each other merely as siblings: She would be able to travel to places easier. He would be allowed to be by her side most of the time. They could be each other’s alibis when one opted to sneak away with a love interest of theirs, whether they were of the opposite sex or not. Little things like that.

πŸ”Ž PRESENT DAY. These days, at the age of twenty-six, Holle is still a reporter for Navigator’s Eye and considered one of the best of the best too. She can be seen often leaving Navigator City with an exasperated Robert in tow, on the hunt for a new lead to a story of hers. The Remi family are just pleased Holle met a charming young man who could keep her grounded most of the time and keep her safe all the time. Though they worry for her still, they were more willing to give their blessings for her travels and Holle takes full advantage of that when she’s on the hunt for a scoop.

All the while she’s privately working on the biggest story of them: The truth behind the Great Fire on the evening of her 13th birthday. No matter what it takes and no matter where the path may lead her, Holle will uncover the facts of what occurred that night and will find out why that happened.
